A Land Rover Nut!

Hi, I'm Jason, the author of this site. I hope you find it interesting in some way or another and I would appreciate any comments about the content or what might be included.

First things first, This site is not about a Laner who is lost but a Land Rover enthusiast who enjoys driving the Lost Lanes of Britain, otherwise known as 'Greenlaning'.

'Greenlaning' is a bit of a misnomer in that there is no legal
definition for 'Greenlane'. This is a 'catch all' term to cover the various forgotten highways that are now classified as Byways Open to All Traffic (BOATs) and Unclassified Country Roads (UCRs) together with private tracks where the land owner has given permission for motorised use.

All that said, this website is about my Land Rovers (and anybody else's that happen to get included along the way), the trials and tribulations of their ownership together with details of any events and charity fund raising I get involved in through their use.

I first experienced the awesome capability that is the Land Rover's strength at the age of 13 when I joined the Army Cadet Force and saw just how effective they are in military service. From then on I have always wanted to own one but it was not until 2004 (some 26 years later!) that I fulfilled that desire when we bought our Discovery 1, 3.9 V8 7 seat ES Auto, what a way to start Land Rover Ownership!

That first Land Rover wasn't used off-road but to tow our family caravan which it did with great ease. Unfortunately the petrol V8 proved too expensive for us to run and so it was sold and we returned to boring old standard family saloons until buying the second Discovery in 2008 after our 2004 Renault Espace's six speed gearbox failed spectacularly whilst towing the caravan on holiday in Scotland. This is the Discovery that we are still using as our daily family transport. In the meantime there have been two more Series Land Rovers, one of which we still have.

You will find more detail of the various Land Rovers and how I come to acquire them on the other pages of this site. I will be updating the pages as time goes on, work is done on the vehicles and events are entered so please keep popping in to see what the latest news is.

The Lovely Wife

(long suffering!)

Throughout the pages of this site I will undoubtably make references to 'my wife', 'the wife' , 'the Land Rover widow', etc., etc. well this is the lovely lady who puts up with my antics with these wonderfull vehicles.

The Nutty Navigator
(son & heir)

This is Aaron, he's my enthusiastic navigator! Ok, he's more like a press ganged crew member but he does make time spent on greenlaning trips totally justified as 'quality father son time' so he'll come along and enjoy himself.

Arthritis Research

The main charity I'm looking to raise money for is Arthritis Research UK.

Arthritis Research UK is the charity leading the fight against arthritis. They're working to take the pain away for sufferers of all forms of arthritis and helping people to remain active. They'll do this by funding high class research, providing information and campaigning. Everything they do is underpinned by research. Find out more about what they do and why they've changed at www.arthritisresearchuk.org
