2012 Challenge.

Plans for a fund raising challenge in 2012 are now starting to be formulated.

The idea is create a trip that will be a challenge to complete in all it's elements whilst raising some money for the charities I am supporting.

So far the idea is to make a journey probably in DVO (the series 3 109") with as high a proportion of greenlanes as possible, camping and/or B&Bing along the way. We know from this years trials that to maintain an average speed of 14 to 15mph on this type of journey is quite a challenge, especially in a vehicle with a top speed of 52mph at best. I been thinking about a route to Cumbria then following the Coast to Coast route featured in LRO then back to Cambridgeshire or perhaps a pilgrimage through Wales to Red Wharf Bay where the first concept drawings of the Land Rover were made in the sand.

What ever the route and it's challanges I will need the involvement of others to help it happen. I've already got a volunteer to navigate but ideally need accompanying vehicle(s) for obvious safety reasons. I would appreciate any help with vehicle preparation, trip provisions and fund raising.

If you are interested in getting involved, helping, joining the trip (all or part of the way), raising funds/sponsorship or just asking questions and 'spreading the word' then please let me know by clicking here or for donations to the charities please use the 'Just Giving' buttons you'll find towards the bottom of most of the pages of this website (remember to include a note to say what event your supporting when making a donation).

All those involved will get mentioned on the 'Role of Honour' on this website and should get their names onto the vehicle for the event.

Latest Maintenance Trials for YJI

Read all about the MOT on a shoe string. YJI goes through with less than £200.00 spent including the test fee. Full details on the October page of the Second Land Rover.

The Most Recent Trip

Aaron (my son) and I embarked on our first combined greenlaning & camping trip. We left home Tuesday 2nd August 2011 heading off on a three day, two night, 300ish mile round trip through East Anglia back to home.

The purpose of this trip was to test out my theories on how much ground we could cover per day when we use B.O.A.T.s and U.C.R.s in preferance to minor roads, in preference to B roads, in preference to A roads, in preference to dual carriageways, in preference to motorways.

I didn't think a theoretical average of 100 miles per day would be too taxing but theory and practice rarely coincide!

See how we got by looking at the
3 day trip 2nd-4th Aug. 2011 page (Trips > 3 day trip 2nd-4th Aug 2011)

The Land Rovers

The current Lost Laner 'fleet' consists of 2 Land Rovers, a 1999 Discovery 2 and a 1979 Series 3 109" although there have previously been a 1994 V8 Discovery 1 and another 1979 Series 3 109" that never got back on the road!

The 1979 109" (DVO) is generally the one that gets to go on most of the greenlaning trips as the Discovery (YJI) is more of a family car!

What's Lost Laner?

This website is all about Land Rovers, their owner and his use of them both for leisure and trying to raise some money for charity at the same time. Please take the time to look at the pages of this site, enjoy the content, join in and hopefully make a purchase or donation. Any of the latter three will benefit good causes which would be great.
